SUMMARY:Group Ride - Honk Fest 2024
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a nice fall ride to Somerville’s famous annual HonkFest:  “An awesome annual 3-day free festival bringing brass bands from all over the United States and the world to Somerville for a celebration of music\, community and activism.”  We’ll bike through Watertown\, around part of Fresh Pond in Cambridge and on to Davis Sq. in Somerville\, arriving around noon or shortly after to join the marching band parade to Harvard Square.  Once in Harvard Sq.\, we can hear a couple of bands\, get a bite to eat\, and then head back to Newton. \nMeet in front of the Star Market on Austin St. in Newtonville\, and we’ll leave at 11:00 am.   This is a family-friendly\, “no-rider-left-behind” ride and all ages are invited\, but all young children must be accompanied by an adult.  Bike helmets are required.   16.5 miles roundtrip.  Be sure to check bikenewton.org for last-minute changes. \nApproximate Route: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/48628299 \nNote that HonkFest takes a lot of organization and money to produce\, so if you’d like to ensure HonkFest continues every year\, please consider a donation at https://honkfest.org/help/#donate

SUMMARY:Group Ride: Ride to JP to Join Bikes Not Bombs Community Unity Ride
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a ride to Jamaica Plain to the headquarters of BikesNotBombs (284 Amory St.\, JP) where we will join and ride with BNB’s  final Unity in Community Ride of the season which is planned to go 11am to 1pm.  After apple cider and donuts\,  the group would head back to Newton.   The BNB rides usually feature a large number of riders\, plenty of music and a lot of fun.  This BNB ride is short (8 mi.) and will tour through Franklin Park and the Arnold Arboretum. \nMeet in front of the Newton Main library on Homer St. in Newton Center\, and we’ll leave at 10:00am. Feel free to bring a snack\, or lunch.  This is a family-friendly\, “no-rider-left-behind” ride and all ages are invited\, but all young children must be accompanied by an adult. SUMMARY:Tour de Halloween Window Painting Ride
DESCRIPTION:Halloween Window Painting Sat. Oct. 26th:\nHalloween Window Painting turns 25 this year! Kids in grades 3-8 will paint participating merchant windows in seven villages across Newton on Saturday October 26. We will start the anniversary celebrations with a costume and cupcake party for painters following the event on October 26. Then everyone is invited to join us on a celebratory bike tour to view the art across the city on Sunday October 27. Bikers of all levels are welcome.   Painters can still sign up to paint. For details on the event or to register\, visit newtonma.gov/culture. \nTour de Halloween Window Painting Ride Sun.
