This 0.5-mile segment is part of a 23-mile former railroad corridor leased from the MBTA by DCR for the creation of a shared-use path between Waltham and Berlin\, which in turn is part of the envisioned 104-mile MCRT shared-use path from Boston to Northampton. The segment in Weston and Wayland is complete\, and the City of Waltham is building the segment from Route 117 to Beaver Street. DESCRIPTION:The City of Newton is requesting CPA funding to redesign a critical compromised segment of the Commonwealth Avenue Carriageway from Lyons Field to the Charles River Bridge\, in the process creating new green space and adding a continuous walking and bicycle path by rerouting vehicular traffic to the south side of the median. The project will increase the overall amount of green space\, link myriad trail networks including the Charles River Path\, the Riverside Greenway trail network (in development)\, and Weston’s planned shared use path (currently at 25% design)\, increase visibility and access to the historic boathouse on the Charles River\, and improve transit access in the area by upgrading bus stops. DESCRIPTION:Your chance to learn about the design and timeline  \nMass Department of Transportation is holding three public meetings to discuss the proposed reconstruction of Highland Ave in Needham and Needham and Winchester Streets in Newton. \nThe project would stretch roughly two miles\, from Webster Street in Needham to Route 9 in Newton. It would widen sidewalks\, improve intersections\, add raised bikes lanes and crossing signals and rehabilitate the bridge over the Charles River. \nThis will be your chance to see the designs\, ask questions and provide input. \nIt is the chamber’s understanding that the Jan. 10 meeting will focus more on the Needham portion of the project and the Jan. 11 and 12 meetings will have a Newton focus\, however the full project will be discussed during all three sessions.  Open to all.
