SUMMARY:“Why We Cycle”: Documentary Film Screening & Panel Discussion
DESCRIPTION:To the Dutch\, cycling is as normal as breathing. They don’t think about it\, they just do it. Perhaps the fact that they don’t think about it\, is the key to the bicycle’s success in the Netherlands. Through conversations with ordinary cyclists and specialists from a variety of disciplines\, the Dutch filmmakers uncover some obvious\, but even more hidden effects of cycling on people\, on societies\, and on the organization of cities. \nScreening begins at 6:30pm \nJoin us for the exclusive Boston area premiere of “Why We Cycle”\, exploring the hidden effects of cycling on our cities and ourselves. The one-hour film will be followed by a one-hour panel discussion with local cycling leaders on the health\, sustainability\, and equity benefits from cycling. \nLocation: Harvard Graduate School of Design  Gund Hall Piper Auditorium 48 Quincy St\, Cambridge\, MA 02138 \nFor details see this link

SUMMARY:Transforming Washington Street into a Village Street
DESCRIPTION:We have much to discuss.  Office hours\, Video from the Riverside Greenway Forum\, City of Newton looking for input on Draft 2 of Hello Washington Street Planning Project. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nOffice Hours – Let’s Chat!\nSunday March 10th\ndrop by between 11am – 1pm\nNewton Innovation Center\n124 Vernon St Newton Corner\nJoin Bike Newton steering committee members to talk about the opportunities to create a more livable Washington Street including bike lanes\, trees. wider sidewalks\, parks\, businesses\, safer crossings and yes driving and parking and how you can advocate for this. \nThis is an important topic to talk about RIGHT NOW as we have just confirmed that the City Council will be discussing this at Public Safety & Transportation on  Wednesday 3/20 at 7 pm.  Your support is needed to keep this important concept moving forward. \nNot certain what we are talking about?  The link below is a video created by “Walkable Cities” Author Jeff Speck showcasing what could be on Washington Street.  Watch it as it lays out very well the issues with the current road design and lays out a vision for a Washington Street that is safer and more focused on people.  https://youtu.be/2zAMdQqkPhk \nHappy to discuss other bike related items too!

SUMMARY:Needham Street/Highland Ave. reconstruction project meetings
DESCRIPTION:Your chance to learn about the design and timeline  \nMass Department of Transportation is holding three public meetings to discuss the proposed reconstruction of Highland Ave in Needham and Needham and Winchester Streets in Newton. \nThe project would stretch roughly two miles\, from Webster Street in Needham to Route 9 in Newton. It would widen sidewalks\, improve intersections\, add raised bikes lanes and crossing signals and rehabilitate the bridge over the Charles River. \nThis will be your chance to see the designs\, ask questions and provide input. \nIt is the chamber’s understanding that the Jan. 10 meeting will focus more on the Needham portion of the project and the Jan. 11 and 12 meetings will have a Newton focus\, however the full project will be discussed during all three sessions.  Open to all. No registration required. \nSaco-Pettee Mill Building    156 Oak Street    Newton
