Halloween Window Painting Sat. Oct. 26th: Halloween Window Painting turns 25 this year! Kids in grades 3-8 will paint participating merchant windows in seven villages across Newton on Saturday October 26. We will start the anniversary celebrations with a costume and cupcake party for painters following the event on October 26. Then everyone is invited to join us on a celebratory bike tour to view the art across the city on Sunday October 27. Join us for a ride to North Point Park in Cambridge.  Most of this ride is on fairly new off-road bike paths.  We'll get to Fresh Pond in Cambridge via the Watertown-Cambridge Greenway, then on to the just-completed Greenline-Extension bike path (aka Somerville Community Path), then to North Point Park, and return via the Charles River bike paths. Join us for the first "official" Bike Newton Group Ride of 2025:  an afternoon ride to the Somerville Porchfest.   Plan on meeting at the Star Market, 33 Austin St. in Newtonville at 1 pm.  We'll ride the Watertown-Cambridge Greenway, around Fresh Pond and arrive in Davis Square around 2pm.   We can spend a couple of hours checking out some of the (literally) hundreds of bands in the Central Zone, and then head back to Newton at approx. 4 pm, going the same way we arrived, or going via Harvard Sq. and the Charles River. Be part of re-enacting revolutionary local history – on your bike! In 1775, on the night of April 18 into the wee hours of ApriI 19, militia members from around what is now Greater Boston responded to an alarm spread by Paul Revere, William Dawes and Samuel Prescott. The British were heading to Concord to seize militia weapons and supplies. Bike Together Waltham (BTW) conducts group rides on the last Saturday of the month, and today we will join their ride, and meet and mingle with our biking compatriots in Waltham!  We will depart from Star Market, 33 Austin St. in Newtonville at 11:30 am Saturday May 31, and bike along the Charles River Trail to Waltham City Hall where the BTW ride starts.  The BTW ride then loops around the Warrendale neighborhood of Waltham, about five miles, and finishes on Moody St, where we will have lunch.  We'll then bike back along the Charles to Newtonville. Join us for a ride to Fresh Pond in Cambridge using the Watertown-Cambridge Greenway.  We will loop around the pond and head back on the Greenway, or if the group would like, we can extend the ride a bit by going through Harvard Square, take a short break for a cold drink or cup of coffee,  and then continue along the Charles River paths back to Newton.  You will see how easy and fun it is to get to these delightful places on your bike! Join us for a ride along the Charles River to the Charles River Jazz Festival this Saturday!  Festival is presented by the Boston Jazz Foundation.   The music goes from 12 noon to 9 pm; we'll be leaving from Newtonville at 2pm and heading to Herter Park Amphitheatre (1175 Soldiers Field Road).  We'll stay for a couple of hours, and head back to Newton by 5 or 5:30pm.  (We can discuss departure time as a group, but riders may choose to ride back to Newton on their own before or after that time.)
