Newton Group Bike Ride

Join us for a ride along the Charles River to the Charles River Jazz Festival this Saturday!  Festival is presented by the Boston Jazz Foundation.   The music goes from 12 noon to 9 pm; we'll be leaving from Newtonville at 2pm and heading to Herter Park Amphitheatre (1175 Soldiers Field Road).  We'll stay for a couple of hours, and head back to Newton by 5 or 5:30pm.  (We can discuss departure time as a group, but riders may choose to ride back to Newton on their own before or after that time.) Join us for a special Wednesday evening ride which will include 3 exciting events:   First we'll bike a short route to Moody St. in Waltham and meet up with some of our fellow bikers from Bike Together Waltham.  Secondly, we'll ride the wonderful new bike lane which is the core of the Washington Street Pilot between Newtonville and West Newton.  Thirdly, we'll end the ride at Cabot's on Washington street and chat it up with our Waltham peers over a bite to eat and/or some ice cream. Join us for a nice bicycle ride to Jamaica Plain and the Arnold Arboretum, passing through Newton, Brookline and West Roxbury on the way.  Could include a stop for coffee or lunch in JP Center.    Meet in front of the Newton Main library on Homer St. in Newton Center, and we’ll leave at 9:30 am.  This is a family-friendly, “no-rider-left-behind” ride and all ages are invited, but all children must be accompanied by an adult. Bike helmets are required. Approx. 15 miles roundtrip. Be sure to check bikenewton.org for last-minute changes.

Join us for one of our most popular rides!  This is a great one for kids, families and folks of all ages.  From the Newton Library, we'll go down the Commonwealth Ave. Carriage lane to Auburndale, through the Cove north and along Charles river path in Waltham, to Newtonville and back to the Library. Join us for a special holiday weekend ride we call "Bites and Sounds of the City".    This ride will include much of the Charles River bike path, and a stop in Boston's Chinatown for a dim sum brunch, and will continue on to the scenic Maritime Park in the Seaport District to view the harbor and check out a bit of the Boston Jazz Festival.  You will be able to see how accessible many great attractions in Boston are, using your bike to get around! Sustainable Transportation At Northeastern (STAN) and the Boston Cyclist's Union are collaborating yet again for another Fall Bike Tour! The ride will be led by BCU board member and professor, Peter Furth. We will learn about bike infrastructure along the way with a focus especially on Cambridge's new Broadway bike way.   This will be a fun, informative and relaxed ride open to everyone! It's October and that means it's time for Honk!  Festival of Activist Street Bands! Join us for a nice ride to Honk!   Starting in Newtonville, we'll go to Watertown Sq., then on the off-road bike path past Fresh Pond to Davis Square in Somerville.  We can have a bite to eat, see a few of the Honk! bands in the Davis Sq. area, and then head back.  How long we stay at Honk! can be determined by the group, but perhaps about one hour.   We can return either along the some route, or via Harvard Sq. and the Charles River bike path. LivableStreets Alliance is a wonderful nonprofit located in the Metro Boston area. Join us for what could the last official Bike Newton group ride of the year.   We will start in Newtonville, head out Commonwealth Ave. towards Weston, ending up on the Mass Central Rail Trail (MCRT) going west.   We'll bike to Wayland on the MCRT, turn around and head back to Waltham, eventually getting to the Charles River Trail and then back to Newtonville.  To celebrate the end of another great summer biking season (and the start of winter biking!) all riders are invited to come to  the Ride Leaders house in Newtonville, in the back yard for some hot cider and snacks.
